Got an old laptop sitting around idle? Here are five things you can do to put it to better use.
1- Sell it
Even if your laptop is an archaic model that has since been declared obsolete, you may find that there are buyers out there. Collectors and tech enthusiasts often trawl sites like eBay, Facebook Marketplace, and Craigslist looking for old laptop models. Give it a go… just make sure you have completely wiped all your data from the device before you hand it over.
2- Recycle it
If you don’t have the time or inclination to list used electronics on marketplaces, seek out a local school or government e-waste collection. Many public and private sector organizations organize collections throughout the year. If your city doesn’t appear to offer such a program, search online for other organizations that accept old laptops for recycling.
3- Give it away
If you have an unused laptop that is in good condition, consider donating it to a charity. Your donation may even be eligible for a tax break.
4- Upgrade it
It could be the case that you don’t need to get rid of the computer at all; perhaps you could consider upgrading it. If your laptop is a relatively recent model, you could give it a tuneup to upgrade the software and hard drive.
5- Trade it in
If you’re on the hunt for a newer model, you may be able to trade your own laptop in for the latest release. Many organizations, including Amazon and Best Buy, offer some great trade-in deals.
