The Countdown Begins
In less than two years, Microsoft will bid farewell to Windows 10 after a successful decade-long run. The end date is right there on the Microsoft Support document that lists “products retiring or reaching the end of support in 2025.” So, what does this mean for Windows 10 users? Let’s break it down:
End of Support Date:
Windows 10 will officially reach end of support on October 14, 2025.
The current version, 22H2, will be the final iteration of Windows 10, with all editions receiving monthly security update releases until that date.
What Happens After End of Support?:
When a Windows version reaches its end-of-support date, the software continues to function, but the update channel grinds to a halt.
There will be no new security updates, non-security updates, or assisted support.
Customers are encouraged to migrate to the latest version of the product or service.
The Catch:
Unfortunately, migrating to the latest version isn’t a supported option for customers running Windows 10 on hardware that doesn’t meet the stringent requirements of Windows 11.
Upgrading such PCs to Windows 11 results in an error message, and Microsoft won’t extend the support deadline for Windows 10.
Your Options:
If you’re responsible for Windows 10 PCs that fail Windows 11 compatibility tests, consider these options:
Option 1: Ignore the Deadline: Continue running your unsupported operating system, but this exposes you to security risks.
Option 2: Buy a New PC: Replace unsupported hardware with a brand-new PC. Shiny AI-powered PCs or powerful gaming rigs await!
The Road Ahead:
Windows 10 won’t suddenly stop working, but staying informed and proactive is crucial.
Explore Windows 11 or consider alternative options to ensure a smooth transition.
Remember, while Windows 10 won’t vanish overnight, planning ahead ensures a seamless shift to the next era of computing! ????????
