Press reports have revealed that Apple has begun work on a new generation of processors that could outstrip the speed of the very best offering available currently from Intel.
It is rumored that these processors could make an appearance in 2021, and that chips are currently in development that could have up to 32 high-performance cores. These chips are slated to appear in machines at the high end of Apple’s desktops late in 2021, and there are also rumors of a revamped Mac Pro reduced in size by 50% the following year.
Additionally, it is also reported that new laptop graphic processors are being developed, even though only last month a new Mac Mini, 13-inch MacBook Pro and MacBook Air were released with a new M1 chip. The M1 chip has seven or eight cores, but the new graphics chips are rumored to have 16 or 32. There may even be 64-core and 128-core graphics upgrades available for top end hardware by the end of next year or early 2022.
