Apple Maps has come on in leaps and bounds since it was released, going from being the poor cousin of Google Maps to a genuinely high-quality mapping application. In iOS 13 and iPadOS updates, Apple have added even more features.

Sharing ETA
With the new update, when you’re navigating using Apple Maps, you can let the person you’re meeting know exactly when to expect you.

When using Apple Maps navigation, simply go to the area of the map showing your arrival time, and swipe upwards to select the share ETA button; tap on it and choose the contact(s) with whom you want to share.

The app will then send your contact a message letting them know where and when you will be arriving and will keep them up-to-date if you are running late.

You can also set your running late parameter, if you have set it at five minutes, the app will automatically alert your contact when it calculates that you will be five minutes or more late from your location.

Look Around
If you’re used to Google’s Street View feature, where you can enjoy a panoramic view of a location as if you were standing in the street, Apple Maps Look Around feature will be familiar.

When you have the app open, zoom down on the area that interests you until a pair of binoculars appears in the icons list. Selecting this icon will open a new window with a photograph of your chosen location. By swiping to the left or right you get a full 360° view of the location, and you can zoom in on particular features that interest you.

Tapping on the street will move you down the street. At the moment, this feature is only available for San Francisco, but Apple has plans to add many more cities soon.
